During Saturday’s Serie A game between AC Milan and Udinese, Udinese supporters allegedly targeted goalkeeper Mike Maignan with racist chants, forcing him to leave the Stadio Friuli field.
On separate occasions, Maignan notified the referee of the alleged racial abuse. At one point, the 28-year-old informed the referee about monkey chants, leading to an announcement in the stadium telling fans to stop the behavior.
The Frenchman received a message of support from Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé, who went on X, formerly Twitter, to send a message of support to his teammate on the French national team.
However, Mbappé wouldn’t be the only PSG player sending a message of support as goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma also went on X to comment on the incident.
“We are all with you, Mike,” Donnarumma tweeted on Sunday. “Say NO to racism.”
On X, Serie A tweeted a brief statement denouncing racism. However, football fans anticipate the league investigating the issue, delving into the details, and administering appropriate punishments.
