Erik ten Hag was asked again about Manchester United’s trophy chances ahead of his squad’s first semi-final.

Manchester United take on Nottingham Forest over two legs in the Carabao Cup semi-final, starting at at the City Ground on Wednesday night.

This will be the club’s first semi-final under Erik ten Hag, who has his United side fighting in all four competitions this season unlike any other English team.

Ten Hag is well aware of the fact United have not won a trophy since the Europa League in 2017, with came under the guidance of Jose Mourinho before the Portuguese manager lost control at Old Trafford. The Dutchman has the chance to replicate Mourinho by winning a trophy in his first season at the club as Forest stand in the way of a day out at Wembley.

Speaking ahead of the first leg, away to Forest, Ten Hag has recognised the significance of winning trophies but played down talk for now.

“It’s about that, it’s about winning trophies, so we have a good opportunity but we have to go game from game,” Ten Hag said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “Now we play Forest two legs, so focus on the first leg, don’t think further ahead because that will distract and so the aim for tomorrow is win that game.”

Ten Hag was asked again about winning trophies. He added: “It’s the best feeling you can have, winning a trophy and I have the luck in my career to win some trophies and it’s magnificent, especially for the fans.

“It’s so great and I think the fans here have some experience, especially the older ones, but in this period, Manchester United didn’t win trophies and it’s too long ago. We are aware of that fact and we have to do it again.”
