Tottenham Hotspur secured the loan signing of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig earlier in the January transfer window, with the option of a permanent transfer included in the deal.

Since his arrival, the German international has been consistently active in Spurs’ attacking third, despite racking up a few goal contributions.

Werner’s somewhat promising start has sparked conversations about his future in North London. Now, another interested party has emerged in the pursuit of the wide forward.

According to Italian news outlet Palermo Calcio, AS Roma are poised to make a move for Werner if Tottenham decides not to pursue a permanent deal for him.

The Serie A club have opted against making their current loanee Romelu Lukaku’s deal permanent, as he is on loan from Chelsea. Instead, they are considering a move for another former Chelsea forward Timo Werner.

If Tottenham decide to make a permanent signing of the German, it would cost them only £15m

However, Spurs would need to make a decision before the start of this year’s European Championships, as the buy option would expire thereafter.

In his brief time under Ange Postecoglou so far, Werner has displayed flashes of his quality, netting 2 goals and contributing 3 assists in just 784 minutes of Premier League action across 12 appearances.

Ange has been impressed by him in his limited time at the club so far and has even called him an ‘important‘ player for the team.

Recent developments indicate that the North London outfit might lean towards extending a loan spell for another season for the former Stuttgart forward, rather than committing to a long-term move.

However, this approach might not align with Leipzig’s preferences, as they could be seeking a permanent destination for Werner.

The player himself might prefer a move to Tottenham if the club makes a move for him.
