Everton officially avoids relegation with comeback win over Crystal Palace

Everton teetered on the edge of disaster for almost the entire 2021-22 Premier League season, but a 3-2 win over Crystal Palace on Thursday guaranteed the team safety from relegation.

Crystal Palace led 2-0 at halftime, but Everton cut that lead in half with a goal from Michael Keane in the 54th minute. About 20 minutes later, Richarlison tied up the match.

In the 85th minute, Dominic Calvert-Lewin gave Everton its first lead of the day with a header off of a free kick into the box that sent fans running on to the field to celebrate.

The ensuing bedlam took time to settle and seven minutes of time was added at the end of the second half, but Crystal Palace couldn't find an equalizing goal.

The win guarantees that Everton can't be caught by Burnley or Leeds United and will finish no worse than 16th in the Premier League. Everton has not been relegated from the top tier of English soccer since 1951.
