Everton wing-back Ashley Young is convinced by the potential of his new teammates.

Young insists their home defeat to Fulham needn't set the tone for the season.

The summer arrival from Aston Villa said: "Obviously, there is a lot of disappointment in there after the way we played, chances we created. On another day, we would win three or four nil, so obviously that is disappointing.

"But I think we had 19 attempts on goal, nine or target, so those are the positives you have to take.

"It's the first game of the season, and you want to get off to a winning start, so of course we are disappointed, but we have to take the positives out of the game, dust ourselves down, and go again."

Before he added: "The resilience and abilities in this squad, I know what it can achieve.

"We take the positives out of today; we controlled the game and created chances, and on another day it would have been a different story.

"Obviously, we are disappointed with that, but we have to take the positives out of the game and go again.

"I said at the time I signed here, you always know an Everton team can be back in the top 10 at least.

"I definitely think with work on the training ground and getting points on the board, that's where I see the club going."
