Former AC Milan captain Riccardo Montolivo feels that Inter Milan can get even stronger with the arrivals of Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski.
The ex-Italian international gave his thoughts on Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews.
Inter do not look to be sitting on their hands during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Nerazzurri already have what looks to be the strongest squad in Serie A – at least based on performance levels over the season.
But that is certainly no reason for complacency.
Inter have already been working to lay the groundwork for their summer business for months. Two cornerstones of the Nerazzurri’s transfer window will be free transfers.
Inter are no strangers to taking advantage of situations where quality players are on expiring contracts.
That is the route by which Hakan Calhanoglu, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Andre Onana, and Marcus Thuram among others joined Inter.
And two more big names will follow. Porto striker Mehdi Taremi and Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski.
Montolivo: Inter Can Get Even Stronger With Taremi & Zielinski
Taremi and Zielinski will certainly bolster the depth of the Inter squad in two key positions.
Not only that, but the duo will almost certainly be vying for starting spots next season.
That could be a real injection of fresh quality to prevent the team from getting stale.
And considering that Inter are currently marching to the Serie A title at a canter, that could be a rather unpleasant proposition for their rivals at the top end of the Italian top flight.
Former Milan and Fiorentina captain Montolivo gave the view that “If I were Inzaghi, I’d ask the team not to sell anyone.”
“Inter are working to bring in free transfer signings,” the former midfielder noted.
“But I’d ask the team to maintain the core of the squad for next season.”
“They’ve already strengthened in two positions with Taremi and Zielinski,” Montolivo noted.
The ex-Rossoneri man called Zielinski “An excellent player, and certainly a player who can be a starter.”
And Montolivo dismissed the notion of Simone Inzaghi leaving Inter at the end of this impressive season the way that Luciano Spalletti parted ways with Napoli after winning the title last campaign.
“Spalletti did the right thing there,” the former midfielder argued.
“It would have been impossible to repeat that Scudetto win. Inzaghi, on the other end, could keep winning titles with Inter.”
