Former Albania coach Gianni De Biasi expects Inter Milan midfielder Kristjan Asllani to further develop despite the lack of playing time.

The 22-year-old rose through the ranks at Empoli before joining Simone Inzaghi’s squad in the summer of 2022.

Despite the departure of Marcelo Brozovic last summer, the youngster is still struggling to earn consistent playing time.

This is mainly because he has to share a playing position with arguably one of the best deep-lying playmakers in Europe in the shape of Hakan Calhanoglu.

Nevertheless, De Biasi still envisions a great future for his former pupil.

“Asllani plays very little for Inter. But although he’s not the most important player at the club, he has great room for improvement,” notes the Italian tactician in an interview with La Tercera via FcInterNews.

“Kristjan is a playmaker who operates in front of the defense. He works a lot with the ball. He can play short and long passes alike.

“We’re talking about a player who rarely loses possession.”

De Biasi also discussed an incident that occurred during the penalty shootouts between Atletico Madrid and Inter.

The cameras caught Antoine Griezmann mocking Alexis Sanchez for his penalty miss while using insulting terms before later apologizing.

Nevertheless, the Italian manager defended his old Udinese star, insisting he’s never afraid to step up to the plate.

“Alexis doesn’t play much at Inter now, but he’s a player I like a lot.

“In Udine, I got to know him well, he is a very good person and a great player. He never complains and always follows the coach’s instructions.

“He must understand that he is no longer the player who has to solve all the problems on the pitch, even if he doesn’t like being a co-protagonist.

“Alexis is a player who needs more trust and consideration from everyone.

“Griezmann was wrong. Sanchez is a courageous man with a great heart. He isn’t afraid of anything or anyone, always eager to work to improve.”
