Inter Milan forward Alexis Sanchez could be on his way back to Argentine giants River Plate during the summer transfer window.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Sanchez is a player who does not look to have much of a future at Inter.

The 35-year-old former Arsenal, Manchester United, and Barcelona forward signed a one-year contract with the Nerazzurri last summer.

Therefore, unlike Marko Arnautovic, Sanchez will be out of contract at the end of June.

At the moment, it does not look terribly likely that Inter would offer Sanchez an extension.

The Nerazzurri are focusing on other plans in attack. Mehdi Taremi will arrive on a free transfer from Porto. And Inter are reportedly plotting an ambitious swoop for Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson.

Therefore, while a new deal for Sanchez can’t quite be entirely ruled out, it hardly appears likely. Therefore, the 35-year-old will most likely be seeking a new club in the summer.

Alexis Sanchez Could Return To River Plate This Summer

In the event that Sanchez is available on a free transfer, there will be no lack of interest in his signature.

Even well into his thirty, the Chilean is a player with a sterling reputation, and whose quality is hardly in question.

There have been links to the Saudi Pro League.

But according to the Gazzetta, a more plausible next destination for Sanchez could be represented by a club that he has already played for.

The newspaper report that River Plate would be keen on bringing the veteran forward back.

Sanchez had impressed with the Argentine giants early on in his career.

That was before the Chilean came to Europe, where he would star for Udinese and then play for some of the continent’s biggest club.

And according to the Gazzetta, River would consider Sanchez a target this summer as well, very much at the other end of his career.
