Former Inter, Chelsea, and Parma striker Hernan Crespo feels that winning the Coppa Italia again would not be enough to save the Nerazzurri’s season.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the Argentine gave his thoughts on what the objectives for Inter’s season have to be.

The massive gap at the top of the Serie A table between Napoli and Inter will come as a big disappointment for the Nerazzurri considering that they had been widely tipped among the favourites to win the Scudetto at the start of the season.

Inter have already successfully defended their Supercoppa Italiana crown from last season and are pushing to do the same in the Coppa Italia, but even if they are to make it two domestic cup trophies for the second season in a row, this could not paper over the disappointment of missing out on the Scudetto again.

“It’s not hard to understand what’s gone wrong at Inter this season,” Crespo reflected, “they’ve lacked consistency.”

“Performances have fluctuated wildly at the start of the season as well as recently, look at the shock defeat against Empoli,” he continued.

“Inter still have to reach the kind of maturity where they can approach the big matches and also the so-called smaller ones in the same way.”

“They have to keep growing in view of next season as well,” Crespo added.

“The management of the Skriniar situation also seems to have created some problems for the team,” the Argentine suggested.

“We’ll have to see the team go into the transfer market, particularly in defense,” he went on.

“And in attack, it will remain to be seen if answers come from Lukaku.”

“In any event,” the former striker concluded, “this team have to aim for the Scudetto, and winning cup competitions isn’t enough, unless we’re talking about the Champions League.”
