Matteo Darmian is once again the “unsung hero” for Inter Milan as they push for the Serie A title.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Darmian is not exactly the profile of player who typically powers teams to league titles.

However, the Italian international has played a decisive role in one Scudetto win.

In Darmian’s first season at Inter, he helped the team win the Serie A title under Antonio Conte.

And that title had the former Manchester United and Torino defender’s fingerprints all over it.

Darmian may not have joined Inter to be a player who scores big goals. The Nerazzurri signed the Italian international because of his versatility and reliability, as more of a defensive player.

But Darmian did score two hugely significant goals for the Nerazzurri in his first campaign with the club.

These came against Cagliari and Hellas Verona. Both were scored in right around the 75th minute.

And in both occasions, they proved to be the winning goals in 1-0 victories in the run-in of the season.

Matteo Darmian Once Again “Unsung Hero” For Inter Milan In Serie A Title Charge

Darmian’s goal against Napoli yesterday was not quite as important as those goals against Cagliari and Verona.

For one thing, Inter did not manage to win yesterday. They conceded an equalizer in the second half.

Moreover, the Nerazzurri already have a commanding lead at the top of the Serie A table.

But all the same, there are certainly echoes of Darmian’s goals in the 2020-21 season.

The 34-year-old proved once again that, if his teammates aren’t finding the back of the net, then he’s certainly capable of it.

Darmian’s well-timed run and composed finish were a reminder of what he offers in front of goal.

The Italian international will certainly have done his part if Inter lift the Serie A title for a second time since he joined.
