Henrikh Mkhitaryan feels that this evening’s Serie A draw with Cagliari was “not a step backwards” for Inter Milan.
The 35-year-old Nerazzurri midfielder spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, after the match at the San Siro.
Inter were not able to capitalize on the stumble by city rivals AC Milan earlier today.
Like the Rossoneri, the Nerazzurri drew against a team currently battling relegation.
Inter had gone ahead twice during the match. But on both occasions, Cagliari managed to find an equalizer.
This is exactly what the Rossoblu have been doing all season long.
Under the guidance of veteran coach Claudio Ranieri, the Sardinian side have managed to stay in matches and then pop up with goals in the decisive moments.
It was a disappointment for Inter. It means that they will need a win against Milan in the derby next Monday to secure the Serie A title – a draw won’t be good enough.

Mkhitaryan said of the draw against Cagliari that “It’s not a step backwards.”
“We wanted the three points. We got one.”
“But it’s not a step backwards,” Mkhitaryan made clear.
“We want to win the Scudetto, and keep going on the path we’re on,” the 35-year-old continued.
Mkhitaryan commented that “Every Scudetto is difficult. We’re playing in a league that’s very tactical, with good teams and good players.”
The former Arsenal and Manchester United midfielder note that this “Would be my first league title in a European league.”
As far as his starting as many matches as he does, Mkhitaryan mused that “I feel great. I want to play every match.”
“I feel sorry to my teammates who don’t get as much playing time because I always play,” the Armenian went on.
“But it’s not up to me. I do my best, and then it’s the coach who decides.”
“Now we’re just playing once a week so I’m ready to play every match,” Mkhitaryan noted.
The veteran midfielder said that his “secret” is “I take good care of myself.”
“Then credit also has to go to the coaching and medical staff.”
“I’m not going to give up. I try to show that I’m ready, play, and enjoy myself,” Mkhitaryan added.
