Arsenal are enjoying a great run of form in 2024, reaching the top of the Premier League table and also booking a place in the Champions League quarterfinals for the first time in 14 years. Amid all the success, the club are looking to strengthen their squad for the future. As per Mike McGrath of The Athletic, they are looking at a summer deal for MLS star Patrick Schulte.

Arsenal Eyeing a Summer Move for Columbus Crew’s Patrick Schulte

Who Is Patrick Schulte?

Patrick Schulte is a 23-year-old American goalkeeper who currently plays for MLS side Columbus Crew. He started his career for his team Saint Louis FC in Missouri as an academy graduate before declaring for the 2022 MLS SuperDraft.

He was selected 12th overall by the Crew and has since gone on to become their No.1 choice between the sticks. So far he has made 34 senior appearances for the side in the American league.

Thanks to his brilliant performances at the domestic level, he was selected to play for the USMNT. He made his debut for the Stars and Stripes earlier this year in a friendly match against Slovenia.

Arsenal Assessing Their Options Should Ramsdale Leave

Aaron Ramsdale has found himself falling down the pecking order at North London due to the arrival of David Raya. The Spaniard has started all the games for the Gunners (except for games against his parent club Brentford) since taking over from the Englishman earlier in the season.

It is only natural that the 25-year-old should look for options elsewhere to get consistent game time ahead of the Euros this summer. The “world-class” star has been linked to Bayern Munich and Chelsea before, and it looks increasingly likely that he will leave Arsenal after the season.

McGrath states that Schulte replacing Aaron Ramsdale would be a situation similar to that of Matt Turner last year, when he replaced the then Arsenal shot-stopper, Bernd Leno. The Gunners are currently looking at a summer move for the American. It is reported that Manchester United are also interested in him.

The journalist also adds that Mikel Arteta’s side are actively assessing their options in the event that the English international leaves. Either way, this transfer situation will be one to monitor when the transfer window opens in the summer.
