Fabrizio Romano’s exclusive column for Caughtoffside always has some juicy Chelsea related stuff in it, and this week is no different.

The Italian insider already has some insight on the future of Andrey Santos, whose loan to Nottingham Forest was only terminated yesterday. After such a disastrous loan (where he played only 97 minutes of first team football) there are big question marks about what will happen next, and Romano explains that there are still a few options on the table:

“Another important story at Chelsea is Andrey Santos returning from his difficult loan spell at Nottingham Forest,” Romano reported.

“The plan remains for him to go out on loan again for the next six months. There is interest from many clubs but loan spots situation is not easy so Chelsea will take some time before understanding how to proceed with that domino.

“As for when Santos could be involved in Chelsea’s first-team, their plans for next season plans are not decided now so Chelsea will see in May/June how’s the situation and then assess Andrey’s situation for next year.”

Certainly a well chosen loan would be a far better option than another wasted 6 months sitting mainly on our bench, but as this summer proved, it’s harder than you’d think to pick the right destination for a young player sometimes.

Perhaps dropping down to the Championship is the right idea – but as we’ve seen with Cesare Casadei, that’s no guarantee of action either.
