Paris Saint-Germain is actively working to secure the signing of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães this summer. According to a recent report, there’s a limited opportunity to capitalize on his release clause.

On Friday, talkSPORT reported that PSG has engaged in talks with representatives of Guimarães. Several top clubs, including Manchester City and Real Madrid, are eyeing a summer move for the Brazilian.

Furthermore, the report adds that the 26-year-old has a “burning desire” to play in the UEFA Champions League.

In his column for CaughtOffside, transfer window specialist Fabrizio Romano explained how the £100 million release clause in Guimarães’ contract works.

“It’s an important detail because it’s an important topic for the clubs interested and also for Newcastle fans,” Romano noted. “From what I understand guys, the release clause is only valid from the final week of May to the final week of June.

“So the clause is not valid in July and not valid in August. Any club interested in Bruno Guimarães can trigger the clause until the beginning of the final week of June. Then, if they want to enter into conversations in July or in August, they have to negotiate with Newcastle, who will then be in total control of the situation.”

It will be interesting to see if Newcastle can withstand the bids coming for Guimarães to remain with the team or if these offers are too enticing to pass up.

Should no club sway the former Olympique Lyonnais player to leave during the period where his release clause can be triggered, the Premier League club will probably hold onto the player, knowing what he means to their squad.
