Farewell Soro. At first he looked decent, in the end just another expensive project signing failure….

Ismaila Soro will finally leave the club after nigh on three and a half years as he gets set to sign for French second division side Valenciennes for a cut price €150,000.

Soro was highly rated when he was signed by Neil Lennon from Israeli side Bnei Yehuda for a fee in the region of £2 million. The midfielder said his idol was N’Golo Kante a player he modelled his game on, but I think it’s fair to say Soro didn’t possess even one ounce of the talent that the French World Cup winner has.

Soro started his Celtic career well and looked a decent player and high hopes were expected of him. Some supporters even said at the time he should have had a run in the side at the expense of Scott Brown!

But his form dipped and like everyone else during the covid period he looked out of sorts. He failed to feature much under Ange Postecoglou and spent last season on loan at Portuguese side FC Arouca.

After seeing a couple of permanent moves fail to materialise, he is finally close to leaving the club. He seemed like a nice guy and I wish him well in his future endeavours, but much like Albian Ajeti, Vasilis Barkas and many others, he was an merely another expensive mistake.

Just an Ordinary Bhoy
