FIFA announces location of 2026 World Cup final

The 2026 FIFA men's World Cup will take place across North America, and now we know where the final match will take place. FIFA announced on Sunday that World Cup final will be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The stadium was chosen over SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and AT&T Stadium in Dallas.

MetLife Stadium is home to the NFL's New York Jets and New York Giants, and has developed an infamous reputation for having a terrible playing surface that has caused significant injuries in recent years. That playing surface, however, will have to become a temporary natural grass field for the tournament, per FIFA requirements.

The tournament will be held from June 11 to July 19 in 16 cities across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The host locations include New York/New Jersey, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Miami, Boston and Philadelphia in the United States, Toronto and Vancouver in Canada, and Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico City in Mexico.

This is the first men's World Cup to be held in North America since the 1994 tournament. That championship game was held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

The 1999 and 2003 Women's World Cup's were also held in the United States, with the 1999 game also at the Rose Bowl and the 2003 final held in Carson, California.
