Fiorentina are reportedly trying to bring Turkish defender Kaan Ayhan back to Serie A from Galatasaray this summer.

The centre-back has already experienced the Italian top flight during his time at Sassuolo from 2020 to 2023, before he was sold to Galatasaray for a total €3.2m.

The Turkey international has been a key figure for the club this season, notching up 44 competitive appearances, in which he also contributed one goal and two assists.

According to Calciomercato.it, Fiorentina see Ayhan as a valuable reinforcement for their defence next term.

His versatility is particularly appealing, able to play as a central defender, a right-back or a defensive midfielder.

Ayhan is under contract until June 2026 and will turn 30 in November this year.

Ayhan flourished at Galatasaray

The former Sassuolo defender was born and raised in Germany, but switched his allegiances to Turkey at Under-21 level, going on to amass 56 senior caps for his country.

He is expected to be part of Vincenzo Montella’s Turkey squad at EURO 2024.
