It may be clear that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has ran his race as Manchester United manager, but finding a replacement is proving to be a tricky task, which is why it feels like we are playing a waiting game this weekend after the 4-1 defeat away to Watford.
Another disappointing result in the Premier League has made Solskjaer’s job untenable, but Jamie Carragher rightly pointed out that the players were a “disgrace” against the Hornets.
It will always come down to the manager at the end of the day, especially when these results and performances are a trend, and nobody wanted to see it end this way. Solskjaer will forever be a legend in our eyes.
However, questions will be asked as to why United waited until after the international break to hold an emergency meeting because the warning signs were there against Leicester City, Liverpool and Man City.
ESPN claim a number of names are being tipped around the table to take over from Solskjaer, including Mauricio Pochettino, Brendan Rodgers, Zinedine Zidane, Erik ten Hag and Ralf Rangnick.
However, with an additional piece of intel, Rob Dawson claims there would be support for technical director Darren Fletcher and assistant coach Michael Carrick to lead the team in the interim.
Carrick was tipped to takeover at Rangers last week by former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam, but that won’t be happening anytime soon.
But this definitely wasn’t part of the plan when we started the season. It shows how much of a disaster it has turned out to be and we aren’t even in December yet.
