Lionel Messi produced one of the best individual displays of the World Cup so far as he helped Argentina to a 2-1 victory over Australia in the Round of 16.

The 35-year-old opened the scoring in the first half before going on to have a brilliant all-round performance.

During the second half, the diminutive Argentine produced an outrageous piece of dribbling in the middle of the pitch, just missing out on a finish at the end of the move.

He picked the ball up on halfway, getting past two Australian players before driving forward taking three more players out of the game, moving further forward and playing a one-two with Julian Alvarez, before he was finally halted by a retreating defender just as he was about to pull the trigger in the area.
