Andy Carroll is in for a frosty reception at Old Trafford this weekend.

Reading manager Paul Ince has said striker Andy Carroll is in contention to face Manchester United in the FA Cup on Saturday night.

The former Liverpool and Newcastle United centre-forward has been training in the build-up to the game and is expected to be included in Reading’s match day squad, despite playing no part in last Sunday’s 4-0 defeat to Stoke City.

Ince said (via Manchester Evening News): “He [Carroll] trained yesterday [Wednesday] and he’s got no problems, so he is going to be fine.”

Carroll featuring is hardly enough reason to press the panic button ahead of our fourth-round tie.

To cast your mind back to Carroll’s hilarious transfer, we look at his £35 million switch from Newcastle to Liverpool.

The former England international went on to score just 11 goals in 58 appearances.

Furthermore, it took Carroll almost three months to break his Liverpool duck as the fee became even more laughable. He lasted just 18 months at Liverpool before a loan switch to West Ham was later made permanent in 2013.

Darwin Nunez is the Uruguayan equivalent.
