Former Scottish referee Steve Conroy has blasted Rangers winger Fabio Silva for his diving antics. The Portuguese attacker constantly threw himself to the ground in attempts to dupe the referee into giving decisions towards Rangers.

Speaking to Record Sport, Conroy has taken aim at the former Porto youngster for throwing himself to the ground in the first half, something that would come to benefit Rangers.

“What an appalling display from Silva. A deliberate attempt to deceive the referee & get an opponent sent off.”

Silva should’ve probably been more focused on playing as he was denied by two smart Joe Hart saves before the interval. The Wolves loanee was someone rewarded for throwing himself to the ground after contact with Alistair Johnston. John Beaton gave a yellow card to Silva before the game was paused for a VAR check.

Inexplicably, when Beaton consulted the monitor, he was shown the contact and not the full phase where Johnston clearly touched the ball before the winger throws himself to the ground. The resulting penalty, which James Tavernier scored, turned the tide in the fixture.

Celtic left Ibrox with a point but will feel that it is a missed opportunity after being 2-0 up and then 3-2 up in the 88th minute. The title is in Celtic’s hands with six wins bringing a third successive title back to Celtic Park.
