France coach Didier Deschamps felt Inter Milan star Marcus Thuram had a good performance as Les Bleus demolished Gibraltar.

The French national team hosted the European minnows in Nice for the Euro 2024 qualifier on Saturday night.

Despite having already secured qualification to the next summer’s tournament, Deschamps unleashed a strong line-up, featuring Kylian Mbappé, Antoine Griezmann and Theo Hernandez.

The match ended in a 14-0 routing in favor of the two-time World Champions.

Inter striker Thuram spearheaded the 4-2-3-1 formation. The 26-year-old scored France’s second goal as early as the fourth minute.

Although Gibraltar were no match at all for the European giants, Deschamps argued that Thuram had a tough task.

Yet, the former Juventus manager praises the Nerazzurri star who did well against the three-man defense.

“His game wasn’t easy. It’s difficult to face a three-man defense as a lone striker,” said Deschamps in his post-match press conference via FcInter1908.

“Marcus likes to have a bit of space and he wasn’t afforded much. So I asked him to stay a little further out and then attack the depth.

“He also scored a goal and also started the action that led to Griezmann’s header with a backheel.

“Thus, I would say he had a good game. He had more minutes than in the last few games.

“He needs time. He must play more matches to gain a little more experience.”

Thuram is gradually establishing himself as a regular feature in the French national team.

However, he has already locked a starting berth at Inter since joining Simone Inzaghi’s ranks in the summer.

The 26-year-old has already contributed with five goals and eight assists across all competitions with Inter.
