Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann will play through pain if necessary in tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Griezmann is perhaps the most important fitness doubt ahead of tomorrow evening’s match.

The Frenchman has not played since the first leg of his team’s Champions League round of sixteen tie against Atletico Madrid three weeks ago.

Griezmann had started that match. And he saw out the majority of the match.

But late in the second half, the 32-year-old had to come off due to an ankle injury.

This was subsequently revealed to be a sprain to the 2018 World Cup winner’s ankle.

And Griezmann has been recovering from that injury ever since.

The former Barcelona and Real Sociedad striker has not been part of the Atletico squad for any of their matches across all competitions since that first leg against Inter.

And it has been something of a race against time to recover for tomorrow’s second leg.

Antoine Griezmann To Play Through Pain Vs Inter Milan

According to the Gazzetta, Griezmann will play through some pain if he has to.

Tomorrow’s match is a massively important one in the context of Atletico’s season, of course.

And Griezmann will do everything he can to be available. Naturally, if the pain is too severe or there is a high risk of exacerbating the injury, the Frenchman would not start.

But according to the Gazzetta, the feeling is that Griezmann should be able to play.

Even if that means tolerating moderate pain in his ankle.

Griezmann is one of Atletico’s most important players. He is both a goal threat and also a player who links together the midfield in attack.

Therefore, having the 32-year-old in the lineup will be a priority.
