Vinicius Junior to Manchester United? Stranger things have happened.

On Wednesday a report from Spanish publication Fichajes claimed Real Madrid were willing to sell Vinicius Jr should a reasonable offer come in for the star winger.

You may be wondering why on earth Madrid would be trying to sell one of their best players. Well, in short, they’re trying to make room from Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe.

This led to reports that United could bid £130 million to get the talented forward to Old Trafford in what would be a statement of intent from the club. It would also be out of character because we don’t have enough money in the transfer kitty to spend that amount on a winger.

Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker reacted to the reports on social media and it would be fair to say he was not impressed about the validity of the rumours.

Lineker is probably right to ridicule the Vinicius Jr rumours because a player like that is going to attract serious interest around Europe. We would definitely face competition from Premier League clubs and it doesn’t look like we’ll be qualifying for the Champions League next season.

Does Vinicius Jr fancy leaving the Bernabeu for Europa League football? I guess it wasn’t that big of an issue for the well paid Raphael Varane and Casemiro.

However, on a more serious note, United spending £130m seems wild in the current climate of Financial Fair Play concerns.

I don’t think the Vinicius Jr rumours are worth believing and they were rightly mocked by Lineker.
