Gian Piero Gasperini has reportedly risen to become Napoli’s primary target for the summer, so what would it take to agree a deal with the Atalanta coach?

The Partenopei have long been on the hunt for a new long-term coach, having decided to wait until the end of the season to start a new project following their initial decision to sack Rudi Garcia. His successors Walter Mazzarri and Francesco Calzona both signed short-term deals, making intentions clear.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has already drawn up a list of candidates, including Vincenzo Italiano and Stefano Pioli, but his favourite in recent months has appeared to be Antonio Conte, who is open to the move but comes with clear conditions.

Gasperini position

TMW details how Gasperini is interested in the project at Napoli, liking the idea of fighting for silverware with a more capable club than Atalanta, who he has likely taken as far as possible considering their limitations. First talks with De Laurentiis was positive and more contact is expected.

The Italian coach is contracted to the Bergamo outfit to June 2025 and earns around €3m net per season, a salary he’d expect in the Campania capital as well, attached to a two or three-year contract.

Napoli will also have to find a way to convince the Percassi family to let Gasperini leave Atalanta in the summer, something that may prove difficult considering his historic work at the club.
