Genoa coach Alberto Gilardino has been linked with the Fiorentina job, as Vincenzo Italiano is widely expected to join Napoli.

There are likely to be numerous changes on the benches of Serie A clubs this summer and they in turn will dictate the development of transfer strategy.

It has long been reported that Italiano is set to leave Fiorentina at the end of the season and Napoli are the absolute favourites to take him on.

While Maurizio Sarri would be the dream for the Viola, especially as he effectively grew up and still lives very close to the Stadio Artemio Franchi, it remains to be seen if they can agree terms.

Another alternative put forward by Tuttomercatoweb is Gilardino, who took the Genoa job in December 2022.

Initially, he was a caretaker promoted from the youth team, but did such a good job that he was given a contract extension until June 2025.

That included securing their promotion from Serie B and current mid-table standing.

This would represent a return home for Gila, who played for Fiorentina as a striker from 2008 to 2012.

Fiorentina had already approached Daniele De Rossi last year when he was not yet fully qualified to take on a Serie A role, but he would not leave his beloved Roma without a fight.
