Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and his girlfriend Alessia Elefante have been attacked and robbed inside their home.

Police sources have told the French media that the couple were targeted by multiple assailants in the early hours of Friday morning.

Donnarumma, his partner and a caretaker employed by the couple were tied up before jewelry and other luxury goods worth an estimated €500,000 were stolen, according to ACTU17.

The victims are said to have eventually escaped before taking refuge in a nearby hotel, where they contacted police at around 3.20am.

A spokesperson for the Paris prosecutor's office said in a statement to BBC News: "An investigation has been opened on charges of armed robbery in an organized gang and aggravated violence following the events that took place overnight at Mr Donnarumma's place."

Sources have told Agence France Presse that Donnarumma suffered minor injuries during the attack, while Miss Elefante was apparently unharmed physically.

Italy keeper Donnarumma, 24, has been based in Paris since June 2021 when he joined PSG from AC Milan.
