Gianluigi Donnarumma has secured points for Paris Saint-Germain this 2023-24 via his spectacular performances in goal. Although he’s had his ups and downs in the French capital, the Italian is now reaching the potential many expected when he arrived in 2021.

In his column for Le Parisien, Jérôme Alonzo claims that Donnarumma is not only the undisputed goalkeeper at PSG, but there’s another bold remark. Alonzo believes that in Donnarumma, the Parisians have a top-five player in his position.

“Donnarumma, it’s at least seven or eight points that he helped PSG win this season in Ligue 1,” Alonzo wrote (h/t Le10Sport). “Unfortunately for him, he shone in “anonymous” matches like against Clermont, Reims, or Strasbourg, where his performances pass more unnoticed, and it’s unfair for him because the value of the point reported is the same every weekend! His season has been remarkable so far. Today, in my eyes, he is the best goalkeeper in Ligue 1 and easily in the top five in the world.

“We must underline the mental strength of this boy, who has experienced many complicated events between the competition with Navas, the elimination against Real, his return to Milan, and the mistakes he may have made. He always knows how to bounce back. He’s a monster at that level. He is a boy who has great lucidity regarding the matches he plays, his errors, and his shortcomings. And I think that for progression, having a guy who reacts like that is really important.”

It will be interesting to see if the capital club feels the same way as Alonzo. Over the past few months, there have been rumors of the Ligue 1 side possibly pursuing AC Milan’s Mike Maignan

However, suppose PSG goes on a deep run or even wins the UEFA Champions League, with Donnarumma playing a significant part. In that case, it will be hard to envision the French giants dropping a hefty sum for a goalkeeper this summer.
