Robin Gosens recounted his busy summer, when he left Inter to join Union Berlin, on his LinkedIn page (via Tuttomercatoweb).

“Let’s rewind the tape to last July. Two things were clear to me: the odds of being a starter were relatively low. However, my wife was pregnant, so it would have been an inopportune time for us to move to a new city. Staying put would have been dissatisfying from a sporting standpoint but the best choice for my family.”

Gosens initially turned down the move to the Bundesliga outfit.

“I explained the situation to coach Oliver Ruhnert and rejected their proposal. Three weeks later, two things happened at the same time. Inter relayed that it would have been better for me to seek another team because I probably wouldn’t have played much. The gaffer called me again and stated that they improved their offer and that it would have been my last chance to join Union. That’s the beginning of a new story, as all was done in 24 hours.”

Gosens departed in a €13M move after Inter paid €27.4M to get him from Atalanta in January 2022. The Nerazzurri invested roughly the same sum to lure Carlos Augusto from Monza through the formula of a loan with an obligation to buy. The German international is off to a strong start, scoring four goals in his first nine appearances in Berlin.
