The USMNT, or the US Men’s National Team has made it to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, for the 15th time, aiming to clinch a medal. The North American nation will be represented by their Under-23 team.

The USMNT U-23 head coach Marko Mitrovic recently announced an 18-member squad for the upcoming Paris Olympics. The competition allows three players over the age of 23, and the manager selected three MLS stars: Djordje Mihailovic, Walker Zimmerman , and Miles Robinson. Additinally, several young players are eager to make their mark, including Chelsea’s Gabriel Slonina , Inter Milan target Tanner Tessmann, and Wolfsburg’s Kevin Paredes.

The Yanks will be participating in their 15th Olympic Games, and are among the favorites to win a medal in Paris. Their only Olympic medals came in 1904 when they won silver and bronze. Since then, the USMNT’s best finish was fourth place in 2000. They last participated in the Olympics in 2008, where they finished in the group stage. In contrast, the US Women’s Soccer team has won four gold medals since the 1996 Olympics.

Moreover, the US has been placed in a group with 1984 gold medalists France, along with New Zealand and Guinea. They aim to improve upon their recent Copa America disaster, where they were eliminated in the group stages.

Ex-England manager Gareth Southgate being reportedly targeted for USMNT head coach position

The US Soccer Federation is reportedly eyeing former England manager Gareth Southgate to fill the vacant USMNT head coach position, following Gregg Berhalter‘s dismissal after the Copa America.

The 53-year-old resigned from England’s top post, following the Three Lions’ second consecutive Euro final defeat. Southgate reached two major finals, a semifinal and a quarterfinal in his eight years with England. His addition to the US team could elevate their performance, improve their future prospects.

However, sources indicate that the 53-year-old is aiming for a managerial role in the Premier League. The USMNT is also considering other candidates, including Patrick Vieira , Jim Curtin , and Steve Cherundolo .
