Lazio are on high alert after Hellas Verona made it clear that midfielder Ivan Ilic won’t be sold after 20th August.

The Biancocelesti have been following the 21-year-old Serbian midfielder for a long while now and believe he’d be the perfect addition to Maurizio Sarri’s revitalised squad in Rome, but a move cannot be made until a new home has been found for Luis Alberto. The Spaniard is currently on the transfer list and had been hoping for Sevilla to finalise a deal, but this looks unlikely now.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Ilic is still one of Lazio’s remaining transfer targets and the club are ready to make a decisive move should Luis Alberto be sold. Hellas Verona want around €15 million for the 21-year-old, a price considered fair by Claudio Lotito.

Alfredo Pedulla reported that a new round of talks were held between the two teams yesterday, where the Roman club asked for a little more time.

Maurizio Setti has made it clear to Lazio that they’ll need to make a move before 20th August if they want to secure the Serbian midfielder, as he’ll be taken off the transfer market after that date.

This puts the pressure on the Biancocelesti and with only a week remaining until the deadline, it’s hard to imagine everything be finalised in time. Lazio could therefore return for Ilic in a future transfer window, barring any surprises next week.
