Liverpool are set to appoint Arne Slot as their new manager for next season, following the departure of Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool Set to Appoint Most Expensive Dutch Manager Ever

The Fee

Liverpool have agreed a compensation fee with Feyenoord of “around €13-15m” according to Fabrizio Romano. This will make him the most expensive Dutch coach ever.

This is important, with Liverpool in talks with Slot since April 24. The 45-year-old even revealed that he would “like to become new Liverpool manager”.

Confirmation

Romano gave his famous “here we go” which confirms the transfer is done (bar a medical, which Slot won’t be having!).

The journalist also revealed that the Reds are “all set on contract details”. Getting this transfer done well in advance of a busy summer transfer window is crucial to Liverpool’s transition next season.

A Good Fit

The Feyenoord manager should be a good fit for Liverpool for numerous reasons. After nine years of Klopp, it makes sense to appoint a more low-profile manager who won’t undermine the German in the media or in terms of stature – as a Jose Mourinho might.

Described as a “tactical vanguard”, Slot should be a good fit for the Premier League. Moreover, he should be a good fit for the Merseyside outfit. He has been praised particularly on his team’s runs in behind, which will massively suit Darwin Nunez who already makes a lot of these.

If the Uruguayan can find his shooting boots under the new manager, the team as a whole will be boosted massively.

Achievements

In Slot’s first season at Feyenoord, he took the side to the Europa Conference League final. This was the first time that the club had reached the Round of 16 in European football in 20 years.

In Slot’s second season, he won the Eredivisie by seven points. The last time they won the league was in 2017. Feyenoord currently sit second, behind a PSV side that had a perfect record until late January.

The manager even “finished” second in the Eredivisie with AZ Alkmaar: the campaign was cancelled due to COVID-19.
