Former Celtic midfielder Mark Fotheringham has been sacked by EFL Championship side Huddersfield Town after a dismal run of results. Fotheringham departs alongside his Assistant Manager Kenny Miller.

A brief statement on the club’s website confirmed that the pair had left the club owing to just five wins in twenty one games.

“Huddersfield Town can confirm that it has terminated the contract of head coach Mark Fotheringham with immediate effect.

“His assistant, Kenny Miller, has also left the club. Narcis Pelach will take control of the team as interim head coach.”

The 39-year-old is highly rated in the game for his work as a No.2 at various club but there has often been chatter that he would be keen to make a managerial berth his own. However, with no wins in six games, he has been shown the door by Huddersfield as they look to make a change to escape relegation.

Fotheringham made his debut in Celtic’s 0-0 draw with St Johnstone at the end of the 1999-2000 season. However, the arrival of Martin O’Neill limited his outings thereafter to just two first-team appearances. In what was a fairly well-travelled career, Fotheringham will be keen to get back into football after his spell in Yorkshire.

Meanwhile, Miller played 46 times for Celtic across a 15 month spell before leaving for Derby County. His time at the club is not fondly remembered owing to the fact he then signed for Rangers and wildly made his feelings towards the club known when he scored for them at Celtic Park. However, his first Celtic goal came against Rangers and he then celebrated with gusto. Miller was a model pro and whilst coaching hasn’t gone his way, he will be keen to make a mark for himself in the coaching sphere even if this move didn’t work out.
