Newcastle United have had an impressive start to their campaign and are still very much alive in their UEFA Champions League group heading into the last three games. However, just before their trip to Borussia Dortmund, the Magpies suffered a major blow in the form of an injury.

How Much Time Will Burn Be Out For?
Dan Burn suffered an injury in Newcastle’s thrilling 1-0 win over Arsenal at the weekend and had to be taken off at half-time due to a problem. It has now been confirmed that he suffered a back injury that will keep him out for quite a while.
Eddie Howe confirmed that Burn will probably miss a few months of action due to this “huge blow” for the club, saying: “Dan will be out for some time I think, a long-term problem, couple of months is sort of a speculative number for us. He landed on his spine. I think he has got a problem with the base of his spine. It’s a huge blow.
“He’s been gigantic for us since he signed, for lots of different reasons as I have continually said. His character, his determination to win, his experience and his versatility as well. It’s not just one position we are losing, we are losing his ability to play centre-back as well. But it is something we have to roll with.”
Who Could Replace Dan Burn?
To make things seemingly worse for Newcastle, another left-back in the form of Matt Target is also ruled out for multiple months due to a hamstring problem he suffered recently. That means that the Magpies will probably have to turn to their summer signings in the form of Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento to play in that position.
Hall scored his first goal for the club in their impressive 3-0 win over Manchester United in the Carabao Cup 4th round clash earlier this month and Livramento replaced Burn against Arsenal. While both young full-backs are promising, they probably aren’t defensively as strong or versatile as Burn. The 31-year-old full-back, who was hailed as “brilliant” last year, made 15 appearances for the Magpies and scored two goals before his injury and earned a lot of praise for his excellent display in their 4-1 win over PSG in the Champions League.
