Dean Huijsen sparked some controversy amongst Roma fans after discussing his return to Juventus in the summer, prompting him to clarify his comments.

The 18-year-old Dutch-Spanish defender joined the Giallorossi from the Old Lady in the January transfer window on a six-month loan deal with no buy option attached, giving him the chance for more regular playing time after his initial emergence in Turin.

Huijsen has started to become a familiar face in Daniele De Rossi’s Roma squad in recent weeks, seeing 485 minutes of action across 12 games with the club, scoring twice and providing one assist in that time.

The teenager frustrated some Giallorossi fans when speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport on Thursday, where he touched on how the club ‘didn’t have a buy option’ and how ‘anything can happen’ in football.

Writing on his Instagram story, Huijsen attempted to clarify his comments regarding his return to Juventus, looking to calm the Roma fans.

“Hello everyone, regarding my interview published yesterday in an important national newspaper, where I was asked the question about my future and my contractual condition, I responded with great honesty regarding the situation of my contract adding that in football anything can happen.

“I couldn’t imagine that my words were reported incorrectly and adding things that I didn’t say. I’m very aware of the opportunity that AS Roma, my teammates and the coach give me every day to improve myself and I thank them for their continuous support.

“For this reason, I expressed to the Club my disappointment for what happened, but I also wanted to make sure that all of you knew the truth, because I feel very good at Roma, and I would be incapable of saying anything against the club and the fans who have always supported me.”
