Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has often been criticised for the constant lack of backing in the transfer market.

Levy has often been quite restrained in his approach when it comes to the transfer market and Tottenham have not been able to plug the weaknesses in their squad at times. However, former manager Harry Redknapp believes that the club chairman deserves better treatment from the fans.

Redknapp claims that Levy has been crucial to the club’s development and he has helped build a magnificent stadium and a training ground. He added that the chairman has bankrolled adequate signings over the years and he has appointed top managers.

Speaking on Kammy and Ben’s Proper Football Podcast, he said: “I don’t know really, he’s built a magnificent stadium. The best stadium in the world now. The training ground is out of this world. They’ve spent money every year, the last five years they’ve been in the top five spenders. He’s brought in top managers, I don’t know why he gets so much grief. I had no problems with him, he was good with me, I had no problems at all with Daniel Levy.”

While there is no doubt that Tottenham have been amongst the top spenders in recent years, they need to back their managers with more resources in the market in order to truly compete with elite clubs like Manchester City.

They have not won a single trophy for a considerable period of time and the fans are clearly frustrated. Despite having a talented squad, they have failed to end the wait for silverware.

Tottenham have challenged for the UEFA Champions League trophy and the league title in recent seasons but they failed to cross the final hurdle. With the right additions, there is no reason why they cannot go all the way in the coming years.

It will be interesting to see if Levy is willing to back Ange Postecoglou in the transfer market and help him put together a formidable squad.
