It’s always interesting to hear about how a former player joined the club and the stories behind them, there have certainly been some entertaining and interesting stories in the past.

I’ve never actually heard before today that former Chelsea winger Arjen Robben was close to joining Manchester United rather than Chelsea at the time. Imagine if Robben, one of the best wingers to ever play for Chelsea, never came here and went to United instead?

I remember John Obi Mikel could have also gone to Manchester United instead and he was even pictured in a United shirt ready to do the signing on and everything.

Well Robben wasn’t that far along, but he could have easily joined United. It seems though, that they didn’t actually follow up their interest at the time.

Robben also says that Chelsea just moved quicker with their contact with PSV and maybe even just offered more money. I’m very glad they did…
