Carlos Alcaraz has spelled out his plans to emulate the men's tennis 'Big 3' of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.

Alcaraz has continued his meteoric rise in professional tennis into the 2023 season so far. The 19-year-old missed out on the Austrian Open due to injury but has since returned to win the Argentina Open and Indian Wells this season.

At the 2023 Miami Open, Alcaraz has progressed to the quarter-finals without dropping a set and he will face American Taylor Fritz in the final eight. After beating Tommy Paul in the last 16, Alcaraz explained to Punto De Break how he wants to become an all-time tennis great and that the achievements of the 'Big 3' gives him motivation.

"At the US Open, my dream of winning a GS come true. But I am a very ambitious guy who constantly sets goals. Now, my goal is to become one of the best players in history. It may sound crazy, but I want to look like the Big 3. That motivates me to give my best."

Due to his victory at Indian Wells earlier in March, Alcaraz remains in contention to become only the 11th player to win the Sunshine Double. It would be another major feat for the teenager, who won the US Open and became the youngest-ever player to top the men's ATP rankings.

However, the world number one wants to remain grounded and not get ahead of himself, insisting that he is taking the competition one match at a time.

"I try not to think too much about the possibility of completing the Sunshine Double, I know that I have to go day by day, but obviously it is difficult because I would love to be part of that select group of privileged people who have achieved it."
