Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus and Roma have all taken a stand against Lega Serie A president Lorenzo Casini.

The four clubs have been pushing for major reforms in Italian football. This includes the return of an 18-team Serie A league rather than having 20 sides.

The top Italian clubs believe this adjustment would increase the competitiveness of the league as well as the profits.

It would also lighten their schedule which is becoming increasingly overpacked, especially with the introduction of the new Champions League format next season.

These four clubs have been discussing these suggested reforms with Italian sports minister Andrea Abodi over the last few months. The parties will also have a meeting this afternoon.

However, Inter and their allies do not want to be represented by Lega Serie A president Casini.

The latter has the backing of Lazio president Claudio Lotito and the majority of the top-flight clubs.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri and the other three top clubs feel that Casini hasn’t been acting in their best interest.

The four clubs have sent the Serie A chief a letter to inform him of the matter, explains Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews.

“Dear President, following yesterday’s informal meeting, we wish to inform you of the following,” reads the letter.

“During the meeting, you made several references to positions you represent in institutional bodies founded based on the document approved by the LNPA Assembly on 14 February.

“Our clubs have not approved that document, nor its contents, starting from tomorrow’s meeting with the Minister of Sport, as in any other institutional context in which you will represent the positions of the Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie A based on that document.

“Therefore,  we wish to clarify that our clubs do not share or approve your positions.”
