Inter Milan assistant coach Massimiliano Farris feels that Henrikh Mkhitaryan gives the Nerazzurri a lot both as a person and player.
The assistant coach spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, filling in for Simone Inzaghi after the latter lost his voice during yesterday’s Serie A match against Empoli.
It was yet another solid match in the centre of the pitch for Mkhitaryan against Empoli.
The former Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, and Manchester United man has been a bedrock for the Nerazzurri team ever since joining on a free transfer from Roma in the summer of 2022.
Mkhitaryan may not have gotten a goal or assist.
But the 35-year-old put in a typically assured performance in and out of possession.
Mkhitaryan played with an energy that hardly suggested that he is now well into his mid-thirties.
And the Armenian’s technique and reading of the game were key elements to knit things together in possession for Inter.
Inter Assistant Coach Farris Full Of Praise For Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Inter assistant coach Farris was asked about Mkhitaryan after the match.
Farris said that “To talk about him.. I wouldn’t say it’s superfluous. He’s a fantastic person, and a great footballer who we love having.”
“It’s a pleasure to watch him play and train,” the coach went on.
“But today there was also a great performance from Barella. Then, Asllani came on and shored up the midfield.”
“That’s another source of pride for us,” Farris said.
Of the win over Empoli, the Inter assistant coach said that “It wasn’t easy.”
“Empoli were coming into it off the back of three losses. They had already lost here against Milan, and never gave up. They also lost Bologna.”
“But they went toe-to-toe with one of the most in-form teams in the league until the end.”
“Even more credit to the guys for how they approached the match and their application,” Farris said.
“In our opinion, the team did better in the second than in the first. In the first, we allowed them a little too much, in the second we closed up shop and conceded the bare minimum.”
