Simone Inzaghi has demanded an instant reaction from his team against Napoli after the team’s disappointing exit from the Champions League.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter experienced perhaps the most negative moment of their entire season so far this week.

The Nerazzurri were dumped out of the Champions League at the round of sixteen stage by Atletico Madrid.

Inter had come into the second leg of their tie against the Colchoneros with all the momentum.

The Nerazzurri had won thirteen matches in all competitions leading up to that match, including the first leg which they more than deservedly won 1-0.

But that advantage didn’t prove to be enough. Inter crumbled away in the Spanish capital, eventually going out on penalties.

There will be no repeat of last season’s European heroics from the Nerazzurri.

Inzaghi Demands Instant Reaction From Inter Vs Napoli

Wednesday’s loss now runs the risk of being a seriously deflating influence on the entire rest of Inter’s season.

The Nerazzurri have not yet wrapped up the Serie A title. But it would seem to be only a matter of time barring an outright collapse in form.

But such a collapse is exactly what Inzaghi wants his team to avoid.

The 47-year-old is aware of the somewhat precarious position the squad is in psychologically speaking.

So Inzaghi is very much thinking about this evening’s match as a way to restore a sense of confidence that is currently in short supply.

Inter will host last season’s champions Napoli at the San Siro this evening.

And even with both teams in an awkward place in their seasons following eliminations from the Champions League, it’s still an important fixture for both.

Inzaghi wants a statement performance.

Regardless of what happened on Wednesday, the coach expects the team to show that it was only a temporary stumble.

And that they are capable of getting right back to the level they’ve been at for much of the season – including looking forward to next campaign.
