The decision on whether or not Yann Sommer will start for Inter Milan against Empoli tomorrow will be left to the last minute.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews.

35-year-old former Bayern Munich keeper Sommer was one Inter who picked up an injury during the international break.

Sommer was with the Switzerland international team during the break.

However, the Swiss made an early return due to an injury that he had picked up.

Sommer suffered an ankle sprain during his national team’s friendly match against Denmark. The Inter keeper had to come off during the first half of that match.

That had led to some doubt about whether or not Sommer would be able to start in Inter’s first match back from the break.

The Nerazzurri host Empoli in Serie A on Monday evening.

And Sommer has been recovering from his injury for the past week or so.

Yann Sommer A Last-Minute Decision For Inter Vs Empoli Clash

There is no question that Sommer is getting close to being ready to start on Monday.

The 35-year-old’s recovery has not taken long. He is back in training and preparing with a view to be available against Empoli in two day’s time.

However, that does not necessarily mean that Sommer will be available just yet.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is hardly going to risk the Swiss international rushing back before he is fully ready.

If there are any doubts about Sommer’s readiness, then Emil Audero would be ready to start in his place.

Inzaghi will take his time with the decision as to which goalkeeper starts. It could be until right before the match that the Inter coach ultimately chooses.

Meanwhile, Sky report, striker Marko Arnautovic and defender Stefan de Vrij will not be fit for Monday’s match. They’re instead targeting returns against Udinese the following Monday.
