Inter Milan have found the perfect striker for their system in the form of Marcus Thuram.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper compare the Frenchman to a cross between Romelu Lukaku and Edin Dzeko.

Inter underwent a radical change to their attack this summer.

Lautaro Martinez stayed at the club, inheriting the captain’s armband from Samir Handanovic.

However, the other three senior forwards in the squad all changed. Dzeko, Lukaku, and Joaquin Correa all left.

And in their place, Thuram arrived, along with Marko Arnautovic and Alexis Sanchez.

So far this season, Arnautovic has only played as a substitute. And Sanchez, meanwhile, has yet to make an appearance.

But the player who Inter are clearly placing at the centre of their attacking along with Martinez looks to be Thuram.

The 26-year-old has hit the ground running following his move from Borussia Monchengladbach on a free transfer.

Inter Milan Find Their Perfect Number 9 In Marcus Thuram

With both Dzeko and Lukaku out the door, the big question in Inter’s attack was whether any of the new signings could form a proficient partnership with Martinez.

And early signs indicate that Thuram is just the right player to pair with the Argentine.

The Frenchman has found ways to dovetail his movement with Martinez. Neither of the pair are necessarily out-and-out number nines – neither are players who are comfortable acting as a physical focal point for their team.

But that just means that the two strikers have had to find the right chemistry so that each can act as a kind of mobile reference point for one another.

Martinez had already found ways to use both Lukaku and Dzeko as reference points.

And in Thuram, he has a player who’s quicker and moves around the pitch more.

This has allowed the pair to get the best out of each other. And it’s made Inter’s attack as a whole quicker and more vertical and ruthless compared to last season.
