Legendary former Inter Milan striker Diego Milito feels that current striker Lautaro Martinez is a “point of reference” for the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Goal.com, via FCInterNews, the Argentine praised his compatriot whilst also speaking about the Nerazzurri’s performance in the Champions League final.

Milito had been a talismanic figure for Inter in attack during his playing days.

After joining from Genoa in 2009, the Argentine quickly became a key man, both for his goals and linkup play. Milito scored both goals in the 2010 Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

Fellow Argentine striker Martinez was not quite able to follow suit during the season just gone.

The current Inter star did manage to score in both the quarterfinals and semifinals of the competition. However, in the final against Manchester City he and Inter failed to find the back of the net.

Nevertheless, legendary former striker Milito still backs his countryman.

The former striker feels that Martinez is an “extroardinary” player and will be vital to the future of this Nerazzurri side.

As for former Inter striker Mauro Icardi’s decision to move to Galatasaray, Militio said that “We have to respect these choices. Mauro is a great striker, he showed it once again in Turkey this season. Look at how many goals he’s scored.”

As for Nerazzurri target Mateo Retegui, Milito said that “I think he has all the qualities needed to do well in Serie A. He’s a great striker who’s grown a lot in Argentina. He’s had a great season.”

Milito also gave his thoughts on the Champions League final. “Inter had a great journey in the Champions League. They deserved to reach the final, and in my opinion even deserved more in the final.”
