Inter Milan midfielder Davy Klaassen considers legendary former Nerazzurri and Arsenal striker Dennis Bergkamp to be his idol.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, the Dutchman named his iconic countryman as the player who has inspired him most.

Bergkamp did not exactly make much of an impact in an Inter shirt.

Like Klaassen did during the summer, the Dutch striker made the move from Ajax. He did so during the summer of 1993, after enjoying a number of successful seasons with the Amsterdam giants.

Bergkamp made a total of 74 appearances in an Inter shirt. He spent two seasons at the club.

And the Dutchman did manage to score 22 goals for Inter.

Eighteen of these came in Bergkamp’s first season at the club.

Bergkamp also signed off for his first season with a trophy, starting for Inter in the 1994 UEFA Cup final against Austria Salzburg, which the Nerazzurri won.

However, in truth it was not quite a period that lived up to expectations.

Particularly in the 1994-95 season, injuries and a lack of form really restricted Bergkamp’s impact.

So the Dutchman departed. He joined Arsenal in 1995.

There, Bergkamp became one of the Gunners’ greatest ever players. He won several Premier League and FA Cup titles in North London.

Davy Klaassen Names Dennis Bergkamp As His Idol

Klaassen was asked about which player he considers to be his role model in the game.

The current Nerazzurri midfielder named Bergkamp as the player who inspires him the most.

Of his favourite player, the 30-year-old former Everton and Werder Bremen midfielder said “Dennis Bergkamp.”

“He was really cool, and he was my childhood idol,” he added.

As for the toughest moment of his career, Klaassen said “When we lost the title on the last day of the season [with Ajax].”

As for the three characteristics that define him as a player, the 30-year-old said that “I work hard, I work for the team, and I know how to score goals.”
