Inter Milan are reportedly working to prevent Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram from going to the Olympics without causing a stir.
The football tournament in Paris 2024 kicks off on the 24th of July and wraps up on August 10th.
While this tournament mainly features players U23 squads, the national teams can add a few players who are above the age limit.
In recent weeks, Thuram and Lautaro have emerged as candidates to join the French and Argentine squads respectively.
However, this would hardly be an ideal scenario for Inter. The club would want to have the two key stars at Simone Inzaghi’s disposal for pre-season.
Moreover, the Nerazzurri will have a long and packed campaign ahead, culminating in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Therefore, they wouldn’t want their two stars to participate in back-to-back tournaments this summer. After all, Thuram should be part of France’s Euro 2024 squad, while Martinez will join Argentina in their Copa America defending campaign.
So according to Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews, the club is working on a diplomatic resolution.

It is worth noting that the Olympic tournament is not under the FIFA banner. Therefore, Inter can legally deny their players from taking part in it.
However, the management doesn’t want to take any action by force, but prefers a diplomatic solution that preserves peace at Appiano Gentile.
Lautaro and Thuram have formed an immediate understanding since the latter’s arrival last summer. They swiftly became one of the deadliest attacking partnerships in Serie A if not Europe.
