Inter Milan have said goodbye to Robin Gosens after eighteen months at the club.

Italian news outlet FCInterNews note that the Nerazzurri’s squad have wished the German good luck on his new adventure with Union Berlin, regardless of his Inter stint not quite having gone according to plan.

Now it’s official – Gosens has made the switch from Inter to Union Berlin.

Having arrived at the Nerazzurri with big expectations on his shoulders from Atalanta in January of last year, the 29-year-old departs after one and a half seasons at the club.

Gosens never quite managed to replicate his best form from La Dea and the German national team in an Inter shirt.

This owed to a few different factors.

Injuries curtailing the German from finding his best fitness and form were certainly one. As were the fact that Gosens never cemented a first-choice starting spot for himself.

However, it was not a time without its highlights.

For example, Gosens scored a memorable goal against AC Milan in a Coppa Italia semifinal.

Moreover, the 29-year-old’s strike against Barcelona in a 3-3 Champions League group stage thriller was vital to Inter reaching the knockout rounds of the competition along their memorable run to the final.

On a personal level, as well, Gosens left his mark at Inter.

The former Atalanta wingback enjoyed a positive relationship with his teammates in a Nerazzurri shirt.

And the German’s old compatriots have given him a sendoff on social media.

Veteran former Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio called Gosens a “True professional and a real man.”

Nerazzurri wingback Denzel Dumfries wrote that “We’ll miss you, brother.”

And midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu also weighed in with a message. He wrote, “Good luck and all the best, brother,” in a message on his Instagranm story.
