Inter striker Lautaro Martinez feels that ultimately his numbers and statistics are not that important compared to helping the team.
Speaking to InterTV after the Nerazzurri’s 1-0 win over AC Milan in the derby, via FCInterNews, the Argentine stressed that the most significant matter is always doing everything so that the team can take three points.
Martinez was Inter’s match-winner on the night, as the 25-year-old’s first-half header from a corner was enough to give the Nerazzurri their second victory over their city rivals in under a month.
However, everyone did their part as the Nerazzurri controlled the match in and out of possession, keeping a vital clean sheet so that Martinez’s strike was not in vain.
Martinez has now made it seven goals in all competitions for Inter since returning from the winter break.
However, for his part, the striker does not feel that that’s the important part, compared to the result of the team.
“The important thing is that Inter wins,” he said.
“Stats are only relatively important, what matters is that the team wins.”
“We worked a lot during the week,” he noted of the Nerazzurri’s preparations for the derby, “there was a lot of talk about their change in formation, we faced a team who kept a very tight defensive shape.”
“We controlled the match, perhaps we could have wrapped it up sooner, but in the end we took three massive points.”
