Inter striker Romelu Lukaku showed real progress with his display in yesterday evening’s Coppa Italia match against Atalanta.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, whoa argue that there were clear signs of the Belgian’s old self in his performance up against the Atalanta defenders in the 1-0 quarterfinal win.

Lukaku’s season so far has virtually been one setback after another in terms of fitness, and this has meant that even when the 29-year-old has been on the pitch, he has looked like a shadow of the player he is at his best.

Recent substitute appearances in Serie A have been anonymous from the striker, with obvious signs of lack of fitness and match-rhythm.

In the first half against Atalanta, then, it will have been encouraging to see the 29-year-old impact the match, even if it was only in some isolated moments.

In the second, Lukaku grew into the match, as he started to really impose himself on the Atalanta back three, and his tidy linkup play proved crucial to the Nerazzurri’s attacking approach.
