Inter Milan will be looking to maintain their defensive department for another season, while Bento remains a transfer target for the club.

In recent months, news reports have been linking the Nerazzurri with a host of defenders. The list includes Atletico Madrid’s out-out-contract star Mario Hermoso and Italy international Alessandro Buongiorno.

But according to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, the management will postpone their recruitment plans for another year.

As the source tells it, head coach Simone Inzaghi is happy with his current defensive block.

The 48-year-old thus wants to keep the department intact. This includes his veterans Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij.

Both players were linked with possible exits for different reasons. The Italian was at the center of great controversy when Napoli defender Juan Jesus accused him of racial abuse.

Nevertheless, sporting justice found him not guilty due to lack of evidence. Hence, Acerbi maintained his spot at the heart of Inzaghi’s three-man backline.

Inter Milan To Maintain The Same Backline While Adding Bento To The Squad

As for de Vrij, he has been able to bounce back from a negative period and prove himself to be a reliable defender once more.

Both veterans have contracts running until 2025, and the pink newspaper expects them to stay put at least until the deadline.

On another note, Inter could pursue a goalkeeper as Emil Audero is likely to return to Sampdoria. The Nerazzurri have the option to maintain the Italian shot-stopper but are unlikely to exercise it.

Therefore, the Serie A champions will be looking to add Athletico Paranaense goalkeeper Bento to the fold.

The Nerazzurri have been tracking the 24-year-old since last season. He has now gained further acclamation after making his international debut with Brazil.

Bento would initially act as an understudy to Yann Sommer before taking the torch from the Swiss veteran.
